A Halloween story. This was the first film I scored. It was an AFI short featuring Isaiah Washington and Vanessa Bell Calloway. Tonya Miller directed it. She is a poet as well and I’d met her doing music at a Love Jones/Def Poetry Jam gathering. Her composer quit and I said, “Sure, I can do it.” I had to buy gear, learn the software and write all the music in two weeks. I felt pretty rough for wear, but I never again had to book a studio to record an album. I’m eternally grateful…as is my wallet!
